These walks are brisk, three to four milers. They are longer and more energetic than the Friday Urban Walks and will likely involve hills and a few stairs. The goal is to get our heart rate up and maintain or improve our fitness level. Walking levels will be a combination of pavement and unpaved walking paths.
For this walk, we will meet at 7:00AM in the Arroyo, in the small parking lot at the corner of W. Washington Blvd and Rosemont Ave. There is also street parking on each side of Rosemont, north of Washington. The parking lot is just south of the small Foothill Municipal Water District building at 1630 Rosemont Ave.
This “Rim to Rim” walk is approximately 3.2 miles. There are two hills to climb, no stairs. The walk starts by heading west on Washington and picking up Park View Ave as it curves up and out of the Arroyo. We’ll walk south on Park View, enjoying the view of the Arroyo’s west rim, then then head down Salvia Canyon Rd back into the Arroyo. Walking south on West St, we will take a shortcut to walk east across the entrance to the Rose Bowl Stadium and pick up N. Arroyo Blvd as it climbs to the east rim of the Arroyo. Heading north, we’ll walk along the east rim and back down into the Arroyo on a paved walking path to our cars.
Bring water and consider wearing a hat!
