This energetic group of Village Hikers meets on the second Friday. They have hiked the trails of Monrovia Canyon Park up to the waterfalls, Cherry Canyon Trails, Santa Clarita Woodland Reserve, Chantry Flats, and the forest trail along the summit of Mt. Wilson.
The trail is for dedicated hikers on fire roads in Griffith Park, starting at the Greek Theatre parking lot, uphill to the Observatory, until reaching the fire roads. It is a 4.45 mile loop, requiring an effort similar to the hike in Tujunga on December 8, with a slightly more challenging small downhill section. There are incredible vistas that (on a clear day) will show Century City, Catalina Island, the Hollywood sign, Palos Verdes, Long Beach, downtown LA, Glendale, Burbank, and, perhaps, Mt. San Jacinto. The trail is unshaded, perfect for the winter weather, with no stream crossings, but with a rocky, slippery portion on the downhill slope. The hike should take no more than 3 hours.
Please bring hat, water, sturdy boots with good soles, snacks, and hiking poles, if needed.
We will meet in the PV parking lot and carpool to the Greek Theatre parking lot. Due to possible traffic congestion getting to the trailhead, we will leave the Village earlier than usual. Be prepared to depart promptly by 07:30 to ensure an 8:00 hike start time.
When registering, please note whether you're willing to drive other Villagers. GPS location information will be given to carpool drivers on the day of the hike.
