Kern River Whitewater Cruise: A Two-day Driving, Walking, and Rafting Tour
The Kern River – A National Wild and Scenic River System
Villager John Jackson is planning a trip to Kern River. This is your chance to go white water rafting or enjoy the scenic beauty around Kern River.
DATES: June 25 – 26
HIGHLIGHTS:
· Take in the spectacular scenery along CA Hwy #14 through the Santa Clara, Pelona, Antelope Valley, and the Mojave Desert to the town of Mojave, and learn about the San Andreas Fault
· Explore the perimeter of the Mojave Air and Space Port
· Lunch: Voyager Restaurant (Mojave)
· Wind through CA Hwy #178 through the small quaint roadside towns of Canebrake, Onyx, Weldon, and more, to picturesque Lake Isabella
· Uncover the history of Lake Isabella at the Lake Isabella Visitor Center
· Dinner: That’s Italian Restaurant or similar in Kernville
· Overnight: at Kernville Inn
· Set out to experience the thrills of The “Lickety Split” run - an easy, fun, two-mile, Class II and III stretch of the Upper Kern immediately upstream of the town of Kernville and ends right in town.
· Discover roadside stops to learn the human and natural history of California
· Stroll through Caesar E. Chavez National Monument and learn how ¡Si, Se Puede! Farm workers and supporters established the country's first permanent agricultural union.
For those not rafting
· Visit the Kern River Valley Historical Society, Re-Vibe Vintage Shop, and more.
· Stroll the shores of the Kern River
· Hike the Cannell Trail 1 ½ miles
Trip Details:
· Carpool from the Pasadena Village roundtrip +/- 385 miles and a one-way drive with stops about 8 hours – 195 miles on day one
Itinerary
June 25 - Depart Pasadena Village via Mojave (lunch) and Lake Isabella to Kernville (dinner), check-in
June 26 - Whitewater rafting at 9:30 AM or other options (above), Kernville breakfast and lunch, and depart by 1 pm to the Cesar E. Chavez National Monument, and Pasadena Village (early dinner before returning) 6 hours – 188 miles
Price: an estimated total price of $325 - $350 per person gas not included (Tier B & C Members, you can pay-what-you-wish and the difference will be covered by the Jim Goodell Fund.)
· Kernville Inn - Rates range from $129 to $179 depending on the room type and amenities. Once we book, they will apply a 10% group discount to all rooms which will be reflected on your bill when you check in. · Rafting $50/person
· Food (on your own)
· Fee – Wetsuits and Paddling Jackets will be REQUIRED on all of our trips during the expected high water period through July 15th. You may bring your own or rent them for $20/set.
