Please join us on Sunday morning, October 27, for a 3-mile roundtrip walk, much of it along the Los Angeles River. We’ll stop for coffee at Spoke Bicycle Café in Frogtown at the 1 ½ mile point, then head back. This is an easy, flat walk on sidewalks and a paved bicycle path.
The walk includes the southern tip of the Glendale Narrows, a scenic section of the river with an unpaved bottom. The river channel is full of willows, cattails, rush and watercress. We’ll spot herons, egrets, ducks and Canada geese.
Here’s the plan:
Meet at 8:30AM inside Rio De Los Angeles State Park on San Fernando Road. We’ll walk out of the park and head southeast, making our way to the Taylor Yard Pedestrian/Bikeway Bridge which gives access to the bicycle path along the river.
The commute is surprisingly easy on a Sunday morning! There’s plenty of parking inside the park grounds and we’ll meet up near the entrance.
From Pasadena via the 210/134 Freeways
Head west on the 134 then south on the 2 (Glendale Freeway) towards Los Angeles. Exit at San Fernando Road and turn left at the light. Approximately 1 mile later, make a right turn into the park at the intersection of San Fernando Road and Macon Street.
From Pasadena via the 110 Freeway
Head south on the 110 and exit at Avenue 26. Make a right onto Ave. 26 then another right when the street dead-ends at San Fernando Road. Just under a mile later, make a left into the park at the intersection with Macon Street.
When registering for the walk, please indicate if you need a ride, or if you can be a driver for a carpool. We’ll work out the details as we get closer to the date.
If you have any questions please contact the event organizer, Jane Hufnagel.
