A team of students in the Cal Poly Pomona's Landscape Architecture graduate program looking at the effect of natural hazards in Los Angeles County. They are conducting a research study about the personal experiences of LA County residents related to the recent catastrophic fire events. They would like to converse with Villagers on how communities can be strengthened in their connection to each other and to the local ecology, within the context of a changing climate.

Join students Julian Gonzalez and Teresa Dahl for a community engagement event and share your experiences over a cup of coffee.

Message from Julian Gonzalez
First and foremost, I want to express my heartfelt support for you and your community in the aftermath of the Eaton Fire. Witnessing the devastation caused by this disaster has been deeply moving, and we want to extend our support in any way we can.

Our final planning and design project is centered on hazard mitigation and resilience. Over the past semester, we looked into all the different hazards affecting Los Angeles—earthquakes, floods, droughts, and wildfires. However, in light of recent events, we have chosen to focus on Altadena, dedicating the remainder of our school year to understanding the immediate priorities of your community and exploring ways to support those needs through our work.

More than anything, we want to listen, learn, and be of service in a way that is meaningful to Altadena. We deeply admire the strength and resilience of this community, and it would be an honor to contribute, even in a small way, to its recovery and future preparedness.

Wishing you and your community strength and healing during this time.

Best regards,
Julian Gonzalez
