This urban hike is best done on a Sunday, when the only ambient noise we’ll hear is bird song. Our route starts at the trailhead located at the western end of Glen Oaks Blvd in the San Rafael Hills. We’ll hike around 2.5 to 3 miles on unpaved fire roads. The canyon is green, the views are great and the wildflowers are still blooming. There is some moderate up and downhill.
If you’d like to carpool to the trail head, we’ll assemble at 7:45AM on Eagle Rock View Drive where it intersects with Patrician Way. For navigation you can use 5400 Eagle Rock View Dr - Google Maps. If coming from Pasadena, head west on Colorado Blvd, past San Rafael Park and Little Flower, and make a right on Patrician Way, cross the freeway overpass and make a quick left onto Eagle Rock View Drive to park. When registering for the hike, please indicate if you can drive up to the trailhead and how many you can take.
To get to the trail head, head north on Patrician Way. At the intersection with Glen Oaks Blvd, go straight, the street name changes to Glen Oaks. Continue north on Glen Oaks until the road ends at the trail head. There is limited street parking on the west (left) side of the street. Head-in rather than parallel park so that more cars can fit. For navigation, here’s a link to the last house on the block, before the trail starts. 2010 Glen Oaks Blvd - Google Maps.
