About this Event

This energetic group of Village Hikers meets on the second Friday of each month.  Hikes are generally four to five miles in length (sometimes longer) and include trail hiking as well as urban hikes.

Recent hikes include trails in Cherry Canyon, Griffith Park, Placerita Canyon, Marshall Canyon, Mt. Washington and Altadena.

On Friday, September 12, we will go on a 3.5 mile urban hike that starts in Hahamonga Watershed Park and loops around the east side of La Canada Flintridge.  This hike has a bit of everything – walking trails, streets/sidewalks, and a creek crossing.  If you can come, please sign up here:  Village Hikers - The Pasadena Village event.

We’ll meet at 7:30AM, just inside the park entrance at the intersection of Foothill Blvd and Oak Grove Drive, on the border of Pasadena and La Canada Flintridge. Enter and park immediately south.  La Cañada Flintridge, California - Google Maps. If you are coming on the 210 Freeway, it’s best to avoid Berkshire Ave because of school traffic.  Instead, exit on Foothill Blvd and head east.

We start by walking up Gould Canyon Trail, on the west side of JPL, then looping back on Horse Lane Trail, exiting across the street from St. Francis High School.

We’ll cross the 210 Freeway on a pedestrian overpass and descend to the Meadow Grove neighborhood then wind our way south to pick up Flint Canyon Trail, which runs alongside Berkshire Creek.

Towards the end of the walk, we will cross Berkshire Creek.  There is no bridge. The water level is very low at this time of the year and you may be able to cross without getting your feet wet, but don’t bank on it.  Please wear shoes that you don’t mind getting wet.

Parts of the hiking trail are uneven, rocky and sandy.  Please wear your hiking shoes and consider bringing poles for balance.  At the start of the hike, the walk on Gould Canyon Trail is uphill for about a mile with a gradual incline.

Please reach out to Jane Hufnagel with any questions.
