2022 Inaugural 1619 Project Discussion

By Blog Master · Posted 01/04/2022
Our first meeting of the new year will be held on the first Friday of the month, January 7th at 10am Pacific, as is our usual custom.

In this first meeting, we will follow the long standing tradition of reviewing the prior year and talking about where we hope to go during the coming year discussions. As a background to our review, which, as usual, is always open-ended, we might review an article that discusses a book by Clint Smith where he talks about the current war over the teaching and understanding of our history. His book is "How the Word Is Passed: A Reckoning With the History of Slavery Across America". In his book he uses visits to a number of culturally significant sites to illuminate the nature of the history where we are in our understanding of the past and how we got here.

The article is from GQ and a word copy of the article can be downloaded from this link.

On January 21st, the third Friday of the month, we were going to have a guest speaker , Dr. Henry W. Foster Jr, who will tell us abut his book, Make a Difference, and his life experience in being in his prestigious position at the Meharry Facility in Nashville, Tennessee. Unfortunately, Dr. Foster has encountered complications with his health and has had to cancel his commitment. We wish him well ad look forward  to being able to reschedule him at a future time.

If you are interested in attending our discussion group, please send an email to be added to our mailing list.
