A Message From The President: Bridget Brewster

I’m happy to be greeting you as the new President of the Board of Directors of Pasadena Village. This isn’t a role I envisioned stepping into after retirement, but then again, I hadn’t actually taken time to think about what I would be doing at this age.

Beyond raising 5 children in rural Indiana (and now enjoying 10 grandchildren and a great-granddaughter), I carved out time to complete a Master’s Degree in Philanthropic Studies. My professional background is in fund development and communication, which has prepared me to serve as consultant with various nonprofit organizations who seek guidance with board structure, effectiveness, and fundraising. I liked my career, and it really shouldn’t come as a surprise that I still enjoy being a part of this vital work.

It’s interesting to me to talk with Villagers about their careers and their retirement. I like learning how it’s almost universal for us to say we’re not really doing anything now. Then within minutes we realize we’re as busy as we’ve ever been. The difference is that now we’re mostly choosing to do what we want to do.

Many of us love participating in various Village activities. Some of us find meaning in serving on a Team or providing refreshments or simply visiting with another Villager. A few of us serve on the Board of Directors because that’s how we choose to use the skills we have developed over years. For the most part, retirement has given us time to enjoy ourselves… and that’s the beauty of Village life.

Over the next few months, I hope to get to know you a little better. I want to know what you think and how you are enjoying life as a Villager or as a community member who supports us or joins us occasionally for an event. It’s important for you to know that YOU are the Village. YOU make us the wonderful community of caring people we are.
