We have two interesting contributions by which to initiate our first September discussion.

The world we live in today has been shaped by the efforts of people in our past, many of whom are little recognized or acknowledged. Occasionally we get a reminder of the effort and contributions of some of these amazing people. One of these unsung people is buried here in Altadena and the story of her contribution to our world is told in this article, “Seeking its Black history, Altadena gets a surprise”. Her story is an inspiration we can all benefit from learning about.


Another resource that has been referred to me by a member of our group is an archive of Jet magazine that is now available on the web. Jet magazine is a weekly source of African-American news, politics, culture and entertainment that was once available in print, and is now available digitally. All of the articles from the print edition can be found in this exhaustive library.
