This energetic group of Village Hikers meets on the second Friday of each month. Hikes are generally four to five miles in length (sometimes longer) and include trail hiking as well as urban hikes.
Recent hikes include trails in Cherry Canyon, Griffith Park, Placerita Canyon, Marshall Canyon, Mt. Washington and Altadena.
Friday, August 8, we’ll take one of our favorite hot weather hikes, Gabrielino Trail to Gould Mesa Trail Camp. The hike is approximately 4.4 miles round trip, mostly flat and nicely shaded. We’ll stop at Gould Mesa for a refreshment break then head back. Be sure to bring water and a snack! The camp has vault toilets.
The first mile or so of the hike is wide and paved; as we get closer to Gould Mesa the trail becomes narrower and rocky.
Directions to the trailhead: From the 210 Freeway, take Windsor Ave exit and head north on Windsor to the intersection at Ventura Street. Make a left onto Explorer Road and follow it down the east side of the arroyo. Stay on Explorer and head north to the large, unpaved parking area near the JPL bridge and the trailhead. You’ll know you’re there because you can’t drive any further north.
