OVERCOMING LONELINESS

Single person walking down a foggy path.

Each of us experiences loneliness from time to time.  It’s a fact of life.  However, solutions are available.  The Village is a community of active people (55+ working and retired) who support each other through these times.  We are there for each other.

HOW IT FEELS

These poignant words from Karen Whitmore, one of our Villagers, gives a personal perspective of loneliness:

“Yes, I do know what loneliness is!

It’s a feeling that no one cares.

It’s sometimes irrational.

It’s worse in a new location, city or residence.

It’s worse when you hold it inside and don’t share it with someone.

I became acquainted with Pasadena Village. Meeting its members, sharing a ride to an event, and receiving a few meals when I had cataract surgery gave me validation and helped me to feel that I was not alone. Science Monday offered me new perspectives. TGIF Friday introduced me to more Villagers. The Critical Issues group addressed current concerns in our world today as we shared thoughts with each other.”

CONNECTION

Interestingly, it’s not only those who are retired and living alone who live with loneliness.   Studies show that a significant number (as many as 2 out of 3) of those still working experience loneliness.  You can be 55 and working full time, surrounded by others, but still have a feeling of isolation.  A proven solution for loneliness, is feeling connected to others who genuinely care about each other.  That is the very core of what the Pasadena Village offers.

Becoming part of a community who offers support, social and creative opportunities can be your answer.  The Village fosters personal relationships and friendships. Everything about the Village is designed and structured to help people feel included, needed and appreciated. We are a community without walls. Our philosophy is about connection . . . personally and collectively.

We give meaning to the ancient adage, “it takes a village...”

We encourage you to join us as we walk together.
