The Hidden History of Black Women in WWII

Dante Brizill, author of “Greatness Under Fire”, spoke recently at the Hastings Branch Library about the role black women played during WWII, both at home and overseas. The contributions of women, particularly black women, in the history of our country have been hidden.  As Brizill has said, “there seems to be a hunger” for these stories of heroism, excellence and perseverance.

This was my second time to hear the author speak of his book and his research. Last year he was consumed with his work as a high school history teacher, as well as his consulting with the filming of “Six Triple Eight.”  He has been dedicated to his teaching as well as his passion for hidden histories. View his 2024 presentation on the Pasadena Public Library's YouTube site here

Pasadena Village’s 1619 The Lingering Impact Discussion Group is looking forward to hosting a presentation and Q & A with Brizill on Zoom. Look for an announcement on the 1619 Blog or on the Community Events page. Plan to join!

Our country’s history is richer and more diverse than we were taught. I find it most enriching to learn about our hidden history.
