Auld Lang Syne
By John TuitePosted: 11/22/2020
Gentlemen of the Village,
Here we are. It is the first day of the last month of the unforgettable/forgettable
year of the Lord, 2020! We will not meet under this banner again until 2021.
This is our New Year’s Eve. For us it’s Auld Lang Syne. And appropriate it is, for
that tune celebrates the relationship of two old Scotsmen meeting at the Pub
to honor their friendship and their old times together.
So, as the last verse of the ditty puts it,
And there’s a hand, me trusty fiere! (mate)
and gie’s a hand o’ thine!
And we’ll tak’ a right gude willie-waught, (big draught)
for auld lang syne.
Let’s make memory, good and less of the 2020 days and nights, how we coped
or perhaps, failed. And what fates visited us, and how we spent our time, and
what new things we tried, and old gave up. And how we look forward to new
possibilities, never too old to quit. And, do you have a “resolution” to offer that’s
never been tried, or one that’s oft repeated?
So, “me trusty fieres” tell us the truths of 2020, and the hopes of ’21, and
we’ll have a “willie-waught” here at the Village Pub!
