Behind the Scenes: Understanding the Pasadena Village Board and Its Role

The primary purpose of the Pasadena Village Board is to provide leadership, governance, and strategic direction for the Pasadena Village. The Board acts as the backbone of the village's operations, responsible for the legal and ethical integrity of the organization, approving the annual budget, oversight of board committees, and oversight of the Executive Director.

The Board is composed of a diverse group of individuals from the business community and from our very own Village.  All Directors bring valuable and varied perspectives and experiences to the table. Though the exact number of board members can vary, there is currently a total of 18 Directors, including a President, two Vice Presidents, a Secretary, and a Treasurer. Board Directors are elected for a term of one year with the possibility of serving additional terms if re-elected. This structure allows for fresh ideas while maintaining continuity in leadership.

Becoming a Board Director is an honor and a responsibility. Business community members or Villagers interested in contributing at this level must undergo a nomination process, where they are evaluated by the Governance Committee for their alignment and commitment to the mission and values of Pasadena Village. A selection process is then held, allowing the Executive Director and existing Board Directors to evaluate qualifications and select those who are most suitable to serve. This democratic process ensures that the Board reflects the needs and aspirations of the Village it serves.

One of the key principles of the Pasadena Village Board is transparency. To this end, Board meetings are open to all Villagers, encouraging active participation and input from the wider community. This open-door policy fosters a sense of inclusivity and ensures that decisions are made with comprehensive community insight.

Long-time Villager Jo Yeargin has found great satisfaction in serving as a Board Director since 2013. In her own words...

The Pasadena Village Board plays a crucial role in steering our community toward a future where aging is met with dignity, care, and camaraderie. By understanding the workings of the Board, Villagers can appreciate the dedicated efforts that go into creating a supportive environment for all. Whether you're interested in attending a meeting, considering standing for election to be part of the Board, or simply wish to know more about the governance of your community, the Pasadena Village Board is here to guide and support you in this rewarding journey.

Feel free to reach out to Executive Director Katie Brandon or any of the Board Directors listed on the Pasadena Village website. Is there more you would like to know about the Board? Please send questions to Voice of the Village Editor, Bridget Brewster.
