The discussion began with an acknowledgement of Associate Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson's first week in session on the Supreme Court.
A brief discussion of the recent news articles on re structuring the Court followed. It was noted that there is a recent suggestion to have the number of justices align to the number of judicial circuits.
A concern was expressed about the possibility of a Constitutional Convention being convened and what might result.
This led to a discussion of epigenetics and trauma. The book Collective Trauma by Thomas Hubel was identified as a reading resource. In addition Isabel Wilkerson's Caste was also noted. The connection to colonization was noted.
A discussion of the recent ending of the season for a high school football team for the use of a violent chant and social media suggestions of violence was noted as a sign of positive progress in understanding history and establishing and adhering to social norms.
It was noted that the group Braver Angels, which facilitates cross political talks, was also a positive move forward.
The next meeting will be October 21, 2022 at 12:00 PST.
