President’s Message
By Richard MyersPosted: 12/18/2025
As we step into a new year, I’m filled with both determination and gratitude. The world around us is shifting rapidly, and many of the challenges we see globally will inevitably touch our own community. Some of these we can already anticipate: the ongoing recovery needs of our members and neighbors affected by the fire; the evolving pressures on older adults; and the growing concern about loneliness and disconnection. Others will emerge unexpectedly, testing our flexibility and resolve.
But what we know—deeply and confidently—is that we are not starting from scratch. We have built a strong, resilient, and remarkably effective community. Over the past several years, time and again, we have proven our capacity to show up, adapt, care for one another, and make a meaningful impact. That shared strength is our greatest asset as we move forward.
We enter this year already buoyed by a generous and transformative early gift, one that allows us to continue recovery efforts through the end of March. This support reflects not just the trust of our donor community, but the reputation you have helped build: a Village that uses resources wisely and compassionately, and one that delivers real help when it matters most. When spring approaches, we fully expect—and sincerely hope—that our donors will once again rise to the occasion and help us extend this critical work.
At the same time, we still have several months left in our fiscal year and important goals to accomplish. Our Board and management team remain focused on completing key elements of our strategic plan, ensuring that the transition to our new leadership group in July is smooth, confident, and well-prepared. When that team takes the helm, they will inherit not only the responsibility of guiding us through whatever the year brings, but also the momentum and clarity you have helped us build.
Looking ahead, one reality is clear: growth is coming. The needs we address—especially the growing epidemic of loneliness among older adults—are only becoming more urgent. Our model works. People see its value. And that means more individuals will seek connection, support, and community through our Village.
But growth brings its own challenges. We must think intentionally and seriously about what continued expansion means for the character of our community. How do we scale up while keeping our sense of belonging, warmth, and mutual care intact? How do we remain nimble, personal, and deeply human as our membership grows? These are questions we will engage together, thoughtfully and proactively.
Through it all, I remain optimistic—truly and wholeheartedly. We are stepping into this new year not alone, but as a collective defined by resilience, compassion, and purpose. Whatever uncertainties lie ahead, we will navigate them with the same vigilance, effectiveness, and spirit that have carried us this far.
Thank you for your trust, your energy, and your unwavering commitment to one another. With your partnership, I know this will be a year of meaningful work, steady growth, and renewed hope.
