• Additional resources: In addition to this blog, the main website for the Pasadena Village contains an excellent list of resources for those affected by the Eaton Fire, available here

•  Housing: Out of the 241 current members of Pasadena Village, about 21 individuals have lost their homes; a total of 17 homes have been destroyed, and 2 suffered significant fire damage, and many more have smoke, ash and/or debris damage.

The following statistics are approximate: 15 villagers who were displaced because of damage to their homes expect to return in the near future (most if not all of which are staying with family or friends).  15 who lost their houses are currently renting, 7 who lost their houses are staying with friends or family, and 1 has moved into a new house for the foreseeable future. There are one or two people who may still be in a hotel but we need to confirm.

•  Financial aid:  To date, thanks to the generosity of contributors to the Relief Fund, more than $13,000 in gift cards has been given directly to those who have lost their homes or are displaced. We have purchased over $8,000 in computers, art supplies, kitchen items, tools, clothing, and other equipment to support the independence of Villagers who are recovering. Volunteers and intern Tino Melchor are providing technical assistance in setting up digital devices, creating Amazon Wish Lists, and accessing relief and recovery resources.

Paadena Village has distributed over 100 air purifiers at this point and are still looking to get more as we continue to receive requests.

•  Right of Entry Deadline Extended: Homeowners now have until April 15, 2025 to grant permission to the Army Corps of Engineers to remove debris caused by the Eaton Fire. For a comprehensive source of information related to local and federal assistance, click here

• New Assistance:

Elder Fraud Prevention Program: The impact of the Eaton Fire has increased the need to combat fraud and scams. Pasadena Village has formed a task force and hired a new staff member (Pablo Ortiz-Morales) to create a multifaceted, bilingual (English/Spanish) initiative which will equip individuals with the means to detect, prevent and report elder abuse. For more information, please contact [email protected]

Ask an Architect: The American Institute of Architects Pasadena Foothill Chapter has compiled a wide range of materials about the rebuilding process for property owners impacted by the Eaton Fire. On Friday, April 18, 2-3 PM, at Flintridge Center 117, 236 W Mountain St, #117, Pasadena, CA 91103, you are invited to a no-cost meeting which will focus on the roles and responsibilities of the various parties involved, including the agency, owner, insurer, lender, architect, structural engineer, and contractor.

Home Loss File System: Out of the Ashes, a non-profit group of community members in San Diego, has created a home loss file system after they had suffered a wildfire in their community. Pasadena Village is making this system available to members at our office. Respond to Tino at [email protected] to get one delivered to you.

About Senior Solutions:  Free navigation of FEMA, insurance, housing options from the company About Senior Solutions. If you need help, ask Nathan to connect you with them ([email protected]).

Group therapy and case management: Independence at Home will conduct sessions at the Village office soon. Also offering case management services (navigating FEMA, insurance, housing, etc.), individual therapy sessions, technology assistance, and educational courses.

Individual therapy sessions: If you know anyone who might benefit from sessions with a licensed therapist through Foothill Family, please email [email protected]

Altadena Water Districts: With the exception of the Lake Avenue and the Cobb Avenue Pressure Zones within the Las Flores Water Company, safe water has been restored to Altadena residents. For more information, please consult the Las Flores website Las Flores Company Water District

A Humble Request: You are invited to provide information to us about issues they would like to see addressed in this blog, or to report events which would be of interest to other members of the Pasadena Village.  Please contact Gary Smith at [email protected]
